Fourth grade is a busy year with many exciting educational undertakings to be conquered! Students cover many different subjects in their fourth year, and must develop organizational skills and self-discipline to keep up with the academic demands.
Math covers a breadth of material. We expand on the multiplication and division skills of third grade, to cover more difficult material including multiple digit factors and divisors, decimals, and long division. We also go over the basics of statistics and algebra, and expand on our skills in geometry and fractions.
In literature we focus on critical thought and reading comprehension, as well as oral reading skills. During the year we read Doctor Dolittle, The Little Lame Prince, The Secret Garden, Aesop’s Fables, Bambi, and The Little Princess, as well as other writings.
We also improve language and writing skills with a deep look into proper grammar and sentence structure.
History is focused on our state of California this year, which is supported by our Mission project and field trips to the Sacramento History Museum and Capitol Building.
Our science curriculum is expansive, covering Biology, Earth Science, Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Studies, and much more. We do experiments as the year goes on to learn the scientific method and eventually how to write a lab report.
We also study the creative side of academia, both learning from the masters and creating our own work. This includes poetry, many different styles of painting and drawing, and various crafts as well.
