These crucial grades are the foundation for high school.
In math, the students cover Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 respectively. Most of our students transfer into Geometry or Algebra 2 classes in high school.
In language arts; spelling, vocabulary, grammar and literature are covered extensively. Students are challenged in weekly spelling and vocabulary tests. In grammar, the focus is on the usage and mechanics of language in preparation for the effective writing of book reports in the MLA format accompanied by Power Point presentations.
In literature, a variety of classic and contemporary literary works are read, analyzed in depth and illustrated either by group murals or skits. These talents are further enhanced during Art Appreciation in the depiction and analysis of pictures by great artists such as Monet, Michelangelo etc. In social studies; world history and US history is alternatively covered every academic year. In world history, medieval times all the way to modern times are covered in correlation to the California History- social science standards. US history encompasses the colonial heritage with the world before the opening of the Atlantic to the present day. Students use a wide range of creation techniques to produce reports and virtual tours of assigned states. This is highlighted by a field trip to Washington DC!
