Carden offers computer enrichment classes to all students Pre-K through 8th grade.
Often, computer class projects will support and enhance classroom teaching. By using technology as a supplement to classroom teaching, students will more easily master the teachings while also gaining knowledge technology and computer usage.
3rd graders learn touch-typing, which is re-enforced throughout their time at Carden. By 4th grade, most students can type faster than they can write.
A premier focus of the current computer program is teaching safe and efficient internet searching habits. Students are taught how to stay away from dangerous places on the internet and how to quickly find accurate information for the topic they are researching. These are skills that will help mightily when doing research assignments throughout their time at Carden as well as through high school and college.
Beginning in 4th grade, students learn PowerPoint, Excel and Word. Several PowerPoint presentations are created and performed to get the students comfortable with speaking in front of others.
Research paper formatting and MLA format is also mastered by graduation- preparing the students for high-school and beyond. By the time a student graduates from Carden, in the computer lab alone they will have completed and performed at least a dozen PowerPoint presentations, created several Excel spreadsheets using charts, formulas and functions and will have written several research-style papers 2-6 pages in length complete with an outline, rough draft, final draft and works cited page.
