Quebec Field Trip

7th & 8th Grade Classes

Our trip to Quebec began on May 1, 2006. On the first day we had to wake up early in the morning to catch an 11:30am flight out of Sacramento going to Chicago. We then took a flight out of Chicago going to Montreal. We arrived in Montreal, Canada, late at night, because in Canadian time it was about 10:00pm. When we arrived at the airport in Montreal, the first thing that we did was go through customs. After everybody had received their luggage, excluding Mr. Casagrande, we went outside to meet our tour guide. Richard, a man who grew up in Quebec City, led us throughout our five day tour in Canada.

During the second day, we spent most of our time touring as much of Montreal as we could before leaving and taking a 2 and a half hour bus ride to Quebec City. While in Montreal, we drove past the Olympic Stadium, which we visited later in the week. We went to the top of the Olympic Stadium, on a funiculaire, which is like a giant elevator.
We also saw the underground city, which is a large network of tunnels that connects most major buildings in downtown Montreal. Throughout the underground city there are shops everywhere.

On the third day, in Quebec City, we went and toured all around the city. We saw some of the major tourist attractions in Quebec, such as the Chateau Frantenac, which is a giant hotel that resembles a castle. During that day we also got a chance to tour around the old city of Quebec in small groups. We spent our time looking at the shops and buying souveniers. In the afternoon we went to lunch with the people that were in our groups. Later that night we went to a dance cruise party, on the St. Lawrence River. There were many kids there from other schools in Toronto. It was very fun and exciting.

On day 4 we woke up bright and early, awaiting the arrival of our bus so that we could go visit the high school. While at the high school we met up with French students that were learning English, becuase we were English students learning French.
After visiting the school we visited the waterfall called, "the Chutes de Montmorency," which was beautiful, and they had a bridge that you were able to walk across.
After the waterfalls, we visited the church of Saint Anne de Bouprea. It is a very large church with high roofs and wonderful architecture. On the way to the church, we stopped at a well known family restaurant that is famous for their maple butter and their bread. This place was called, "Chez Marie."
Later that night we enjoyed our last night with dancing and singing at the Sugar Shack.

We had a great time on this trip and we enjoyed the time that we spent in Quebec. We were able to put our school French lessons to good use. It was a trip that we will never forget.
