On May 1, my 6th grade class went to Monterey for one week. While we were there, we stayed at the Best Western Monterey Inn. On Monday, we went tidepool exploring. We saw anemones, purple sea urchins, hermit crabs, kelp, and aggregating anemone. We all ran around on the sand and got pretty wet from the waves.
On Tuesday, we went on a 5:00 morning beach run. We collected sand dollars and saved a sandcrab. We also went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium where we saw giant sea turtles, penguins, hammerhead sharks, sunfishes, jellyfish, sea otters, tuna, and many other animals. We had to split into three groups and complete a logbook that Mr. Pena had given us.
On Wednsday, we went on a bike ride to the light house for about an hour or two. Three people got lost on the ride because, they made the wrong turn. It took awhile to look for them, but we ended up finding them. We also went snorkeling and saw a sealion, crabs, bat stars, and lots of giant kelp. The hardest part was putting on the wetsuits which took a little while, but it ended up being very exciting.
On Thursday, we had to head back to Sacramento. We returned to the school around 3:00 in the afternoon. It was a very thrilling trip and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I am excited to go to Washinton D.C. with my class next year, and to go to Quebec in Eighth Grade.
